Olympus — quality in optics since 1919
Already in 1919 the company Olympus was founded by Takeshi Yamashita and Shintaro Terada under its previous name Takachiho Seisakucho Co. With the purpose to manufacture the first japanese microscopes.
Already the first microscope was a big success and the basis of Olympus stable and further growth. In 1949 the company was renamed in its final name OLYMPUS.
Since that time the steady growth based on the high quality of the products and the innovative developments of new products. So next to cameras, binoculars and voice recorders, Olympus started early in medical field and released in 1950 the first gastro-camera for detection of stomach cancer. In the followings years this business field was continuous developed and enhanced by further products such as endoscopes and ultrasonic systems.
Thereby the basis of microscopes was not neglected and continuously improved.
Nowadays Olympus belongs with more than 31500
staff in 34 subsidiaries to the leading companies in optics and microscopes.
